When Vine hit the social media scene back in 2013, it took the internet by storm. But the platform left a gaping hole in the fabric of social media when it met its demise three years ago. And while nothing can directly compare to those loopable 7 seconds of joy that Vine brought to us on a daily basis, there is an app that has rekindled the spirit of the now-defunct platform.
TikTok, formerly known as Musical.ly, has been admirably filling the void left behind by Vine for the past couple of years. Once upon a time, TikTok was viewed by many as a 'teeny-bopper' social app overflowing with cringeworthy lip-syncs and equally awkward dance trends. But as the app has soared in popularity in recent months, TikTok users have been investing more heavily into creative short sketches, much like the ones we used to watch for hours on end back in the days of Vine.
While there may be nothing that ever truly replaces the campy fun that Vine gave us for a few years, as TikTok continues its rapid ascent up the App charts and into pop culture as a whole, one can't help but reminisce on its roots.
