The COVID-19 vaccination drive is set to become one of the most extensive public education and awareness campaigns in recent US history. What’s different this time around?

Amid an unprecedented rise in fake news and vaccine fear-mongering, the federal government, healthcare organizations, and other bodies are turning to social media influencers to raise awareness and appeal to people to get vaccinated. Influencers are playing a significant role in raising awareness about safety measures and the precautions that need to be taken to tackle the pandemic.

Influencer marketing agencies like Viral Nation are right at the center of these efforts, identifying and engaging with the influencers across the country and across niches. Joe Gagliese, the co-founder and CEO of Viral Nation, believes that influencers, especially in the healthcare sector, will become critical players in this campaign.

“There’s been a significant increase in the number of healthcare influencers on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. We’re getting ready for a major influencer-led push to drive awareness about vaccines,” said Gagliese.

“Healthcare influencers, agencies, and the government — we all have one key objective in mind: reach out and educate people about vaccine safety and pave the way for a proper rollout this year.

National and international organizations, including the World Health Organization and the Ad Council, are committing hundreds of millions of dollars to outreach campaigns, hoping to make significant inroads and develop a positive attitude towards vaccination among the general public.

Tailoring the messaging to appeal to specific groups will be a major challenge, but this is where influencers come into the picture.

Vaccinations are more likely to be administered to at-risk populations first. Latin and African American communities, which often find themselves on the US healthcare system’s fringes, are a crucial focus: community influencers are being roped in to educate at-risk groups and ensure they get vaccinated on time.

Viral Nation is uniquely positioned to help: our Influsoft software suite helps connect over 100 million influencers with top brands. Using Influsoft and our on-ground networks, we’re working to activate key influencers across the country to amplify the vaccine safety message. As the country gets back on its feet, everyone needs to pitch in, and this is how we’re helping.
