Female influencers are changing the way brands connect with new audiences in new spaces, amassing millions of social media followers in the process. Today consumers are relying less and less on celebrity endorsements, with A-listers telling them what’s hot and what’s not. Instead, they are turning to their favorite influencers to lead them to those answers.

These rock star women cover a wide range of sectors and help brands to tap into new spaces, all by simply promoting their products to their followers. They help brands maximize their online exposure and plant them firmly on the map. From beauty to travel to lifestyle, these women are setting the bar for influencers of any gender, and getting the attention of every influencer marketing agency around. They also provide examples of strategies for Instagram influencers of all types.

Here’s a look at some of the most-followed and beloved female influencers in 2020 and beyond.

Huda Kattan

The New York Times published an article, Is Huda Kattan the Most Influential Beauty Blogger in the World? I think it’s safe to say the answer to that question is a resounding “YES”. As with many of these top influencers, Huda is first and foremost a blogger who also operates on Instagram, albeit having a MASSIVE Instagram following in its own right.

Huda is a master at showing makeup trends, reviews and how-tos that her audience can’t get enough of. She switches it up, seamlessly toggling between static images and video in her Instagram feed and weaving her content in a pleasantly consumable flow. She is a businesswoman herself and has her own range of makeup. Instagram is an ideal medium for the makeup and beauty sector, being a perfect way to show off examples of good (and not so good) makeup applications.

Michelle Lewin

Michelle Lewin is the crème de la crème of fitness influencers. The Miami based bodybuilder and fitness model has a massive social media following with over 13.3 million followers on Instagram. She has appeared on over 30 magazine covers the likes of Sports & Fitness, Her Muscle & Fitness, Iron Man, and even Playboy. After immigrating to America from Venezuela in 2012, she has become the self-proclaimed ‘Latin queen of the fitness scene’, and her immense audience validates that title.

When asked by Simply Shredded how she got her start bodybuilding, Lewin said “I (had been) modeling for a few years, and a part of my job was to stay in shape. I loved it and it led me to become a total gym rat. After months of intense training, the abs started to show and I was enjoying the fitness lifestyle. Suddenly the modeling requests were coming from Fitness Magazines and Supplement companies.” I guess you could say the rest is history. Like many other members of this list, she is also an author who released a book this year titled “The Hot Body Diet: The Plan to Radically Transform Your Body in 28 Days.”

Chiara Ferragni is an Italian-born, but New York-based, blogger and fashion designer who runs a fashion blog named The Blonde Salad. She has partnered with brands like Guess as a model and spokesperson, and her Instagram postings are an offshoot of that.

But her work hasn’t been limited to her Guess partnership. She has also collaborated with several leading fashion designers, including Steve Madden, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Max Mara, Chanel, Tommy Hilfiger, J Brand, and Seven for All Mankind.

Ferragni is a trendsetter on many levels. Chiara was the first blogger to appear on the cover of Vogue magazine, prominently featured on the cover of the Spanish edition of the magazine in April 2015.

A post shared by Joanna Stevens Gaines (@joannagaines) on

What list of female influencers would be complete with the incomparable Joanna Gaines? Not one we can think of! Gaines is known for being a host on HGTV’s hugely successful series ‘Fixer Upper’. The show both the perfect backdrop and platform to show off the renovations that she and her husband, Chip, have done as owners of the renovation business, Magnolia Homes. While Chip has the real estate knowledge and experience, Joanna brings design flair to the team.

It likely comes as no surprise that Joanna’s Instagram account is a natural partner to the TV show and her renovation work. She uses it as a photographic record of her television filming as well as renovation processes, flawlessly documenting her breathtaking makeovers and designs.

I’ve been planning more regional trips and dreaming up exciting road trips to take with Luna! This weekend, we took a little trip just outside of Cape Town to camp on the beach and test out her new rooftop tent! (Can you believe these views?!) Nothing beats coming home to my little girl after a long day of meetings. 😍🙌🏼 Someone asked me the other day whether I get the “mum guilt” from working and having to leave Mia with either Declan or a babysitter. I am so grateful to be able to spend a lot of time with Mia but I can’t always have her with me when I’m working. I love being able to continue growing my businesses and achieve my dreams! I absolutely love being a mum and do want more kids and I believe that you don’t have to give up your dreams because you’re a parent. Sure having kids is definitely hard, especially with multiple kids or as a single parent and I have so much respect for all parents! 🙌🏼 I just believe that if there’s something you want for YOU then don’t just give it up because you believe it’s all over for you now because you’re a parent or because you’re “older” or whatever else. Prioritising yourself AND your dreams is not a selfish or bad thing to do. Too many believe it is and it’s just not. How can doing something that you love that makes you happy be negative for anyone? Figure out a way to do it and go get it! You deserve it. 😘 . . #emilyskye #businessmum #workingmumlife #14monthsold

Emily Skye absolutely dominates on IG. The Australian fitness model is revered because she’s all business when it comes to health and fitness. She is known for her no-nonsense approach to dieting, training, and living a healthy lifestyle. Though it may be hard to imagine, Skye wasn’t always the picture of health that she is today. When she started her modeling career, she was an insecure teenager suffering from depression and unhealthy living habits. “I struggled pretty badly with depression’ she has said. Skye battled depression at a young age and tried to commit suicide at age 18. That event would eventually lead her to the decision to move away from conventional modeling and start focusing on her health and fitness.

She has become an ultra-successful personal trainer and inspiration to people all over the globe, achieving recognition through her incredible transformation story. Skye recently gave birth to her first child and has been in the news lately discussing her path to ‘bouncing back’ from having a baby. She currently has over 2.4 million followers on Instagram.
